网友发帖称，飞了大概70分钟的时候，机长广播说因为飞机出现故障要马上飞回悉尼。于是，飞机开始全速返航，期间应该是受气流影响，颠簸不断，明显可以感觉到飞机在加速，心里着实有点害怕。大概30分钟就降落回悉尼机场了。
网友发帖后，评论区有人留言称自己的父母也在同一航班上，询问现场情况如何。作者回复道：航空公司提供酒店住宿一晚，同时对机长及时发现故障，及时返航表达感谢。
经查询发现，CA174航班（悉尼-北京）执飞的飞机机龄7年，为波音777-39L（宽体机），原本预计北京时间12月30日20：40从悉尼出发，12月31日5：00到达北京首都机场。
晚间，中国国际航空通报：
北京时间12月30日，CA174航班（悉尼-北京）在飞行途中出现故障，机组按程序处置，为确保安全，决定返航悉尼，飞机已于北京时间19时45分安全落地悉尼机场。国航将妥善做好后续旅客服务工作，对于因此给旅客带来的不便，我们深表歉意。
